If At First You Don't Succeed....

FAIL...

AND FAIL AGAIN...?

One of my friends passes those two signs every day on her way to work. Knowing how much I looooove to see bad spelling *sarcasm* she sent me those photos lol.

Now, I'm tempted to admire the sign-maker's persistence, and the fact that (s)he seems to have some understanding (however minimal) of the existence and rules of phonics....BUUUUUUUUT, how does one overlook his/her inability to figure out which version of the word 'here' is the right one? Or that very unique spelling of the word 'absolutely'? He/she changed the spelling of both words and STILL got it wrong! On the bright side tho, the corrections at least show that the writer knew something was off.....and that there are different ways to spell the word 'here' :)

I can't tell you how many adults still don't know the difference between 'their', 'they're' and 'there'....'it's' and 'its'....oh, and let's not forget the EVER-CHALLENGING 'your' vs 'you're'....It's certainly a battle many adults continue to fight, so I won't be too hard on ole sign-maker here :)

What I will do is probably make a sign and have my friend hang it on the gate as a Christmas gift lol. Who am I kidding?...That sign is staying right there lol. Bad spelling or not, the point is clear:

NO VENDING ON DE PEOPLE PROPERTY!

If you play harden, ignore the sign and go vending, durn't bee soprides eef de peepole caul poleece four yoo!

On a serious note though, if you know an adult who could use a little reading and writing assistance, feel free to direct them to the Adult Literacy Tutors Association (ALTA).
