Like most people who attended the launch, I went to get a firsthand look at the costumes. However, the models (and I use that term very, very, very loosely because many of them did not model the costumes) were so busy racing across the stage that they didn't give patrons a chance to take proper photos or even get a decent look at the costumes. At certain points the entire presentation seemed rushed and unrehearsed.
The "This is a band launch" memo apparently never made it to the DJ because his playlist had members of the audience complaining that there wasn't enough soca. I get that he was trying to mix it up, but his recipe should have called for 3 parts soca, 1 part dancehall/alternative/pop...and not vice versa.
I don't know about anyone else, but I have NEVER uttered the words, "BOY!! Come Carnival Monday & Tuesday I cyar wait to wine down to "Limb by Limb" by Cutty Ranks and "Mr. Bombastic" by Shaggy! And oh goooouuudd!!! Dey better play dat Gyptian "Hold Yuh" when we crossing de stage!!!"...*eye roll*...So you Mr. DJ, get 4 out of 5 'womp wommmpppps' from me for that mess you played on Saturday.
After last year's launch I knew my costume choices and it was only a matter of going to the mas camp to confirm. After Saturday, I HAVE to go to the mas camp to decide, because I really didn't get a proper look and at this point I feel that I'm more in love with photos than the actual costumes....and any discriminating masquerader can tell you that seeing a costume up close can make or break your love affair with it....So I patiently await the "no later than Tuesday" opening of the mas camp.
I did manage to get some good shots of the costumes and those are the photos that are kinda helping the decision making process thus far. My friends and family are already way ahead of me with their decisions so I'm playing catch up.
Here are some of the photos from the launch. The full album can be found HERE.

I'm liking costumes from both TRIBE and BLISS, but as I keep telling the people who ask me, what I like and what I would play in are different stories. Only time...and a trip to the mas camp will tell :)

great jobs on the photos!
and thanks for the honest review of the launch. hopefully when the mas camp opens a beautiful halo will appear around your costume of choice and a trumpet will sound from the heavens that only you can hear, urging you to play in the section that, coincidentally, your besties will be playing in too! wink wink.
